Changing Times
13/07/17-11/08/17
11am-4pm Wed-Sun
& daily during holidays

The theme for this exhibition is Changing Times. Artists and their works were entered through an open submission process and a prestigious judging panel of Helen Davies (acting CEO Arnolfini, Bristol) and Phil Power (Associate Professor at Plymouth University in Fine Art Contextual Practice) select the works and overall winner of the exhibition.

Former Curator of Learning at Arnolfini, Bristol, Helen Davies joined the judging panel as acting CEO of Arnolfini. Helen is a dedicated arts professional with 10 years experience working across multi-disciplined cultural organisations, historic and contemporary collections. Associate Professor (Senior Lecturer) at Plymouth University in Fine Art Contextual Practice, Phil Power joined the judging panel as a studio teacher, lecturer, thesis and seminar tutor for students as well as a practising artist himself.

The 2017 West Somerset Open invited artists living and working in West Somerset to produce artworks on the theme of Changing Times. The theme was designed to encourage a wide range of interpretations and contexts including themes of political uncertainty (the exhibition opens a year to the day of David Cameron’s resignation as Prime Minister) or personal and material development. The artists have addressed these themes through their own perspectives.

The winner of the open exhibition will be announced at the private view on Wednesday 12th July from 6pm. A work will also be announced for the Exmoor Magazine Prize, media partners of the exhibition.
